OUR PROCESS
Sweet Earth Tiles are made with fine white stoneware clay,
for installation in either wet or dry areas, or in terra cotta clay,
which is for dry areas only. Most designs can be made in either clay.
Our glazes look great on their own but they also mix well with glass, or with
rough or polished stone. Currently, we have over
200 colors available to choose from.
Field and Impressions Tiles are made by pressing soft clay into a slab before
being carefully cut into various size squares, octagons or rectangles.
Texture can be added before tiles are formed.
Relief Tiles are made by pressing soft clay into open plaster molds and then
allowing them to drop out as they dry. To avoid warping, they are dried very slowly
before being bisque fired, glazed and then fired again.
We make most of our own glazes from naturally occurring compounds
and love to develop new ones to add to our collection.
