In an effort to conserve resources, we’re always looking for ways to “green up” our studio. At this time, we:
- Buy U.S. sourced materials in pallet quantities to reduce transportation requirements
- Fire at the low end of the stoneware temperature range to reduce electricity usage
- Ban the use of lead in our glazes
- Use recycled packaging as often as possible
- Recycle all our raw clay and glazes
- Downcycle our fired tiles to local mosaic artists

Not only do recycling and downcycling conserve resources, but they’ve given us some very charming results. For one, it’s given us a great new glaze that we call “regreen”, which consists of nothing but the leftover bits test glaze dumped into one bin. Fortunately, it’s a big bin, so we have a nice supply. You can order it if you’d like.

Our fired seconds are currently being downcycled to local mosaic artists. It’s been a lot of fun to see them used in such lovely ways. mosaic by Karla Chistensen
